1 book
6 chapters
3 methods of studying
Endless opportunities to grow!
For our 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting this year we’re doing something a little different. We’re going to be doing a particularly deep dive into the powerful New Testament book of Galatians. It’s a relatively short, 6-chapter letter that’s still packed with profound insights into the gospel and how it impacts our lives.
As you’ll notice, each week begins by reading all 6 chapters ideally in one sitting. It only takes about 20-30 minutes. And that’s pretty much all that you do that day. Then each day after that you read and study one chapter. But what’s particularly interesting this time is that each week will be a bit of a different Bible study method that you’ll be using.
We believe and are hoping that this is going to be such a special blessing to you. You’re going to really soak in the truths that God has for His people in this book. By looking at it over and again, you’ll find new things popping out to you. And by utilizing a couple different ways of studying the Bible, you might find that it impacts the way you personally study the Scriptures on your own for a much longer time than just these 21 days.
LET’S GET STARTED!
DAY 1
Monday, January 12
Read the whole book of Galatians, ideally in one sitting so that you’re able to get the big picture of the whole letter.
What are some of the biggest things that stood out to you?
DAY 2
Tuesday, January 13
Alright! This week we’ll be using what’s called the “S.O.A.P.” Bible study method. It’s an acronym for the 4 actions that you’ll take each day with the chapter you’re reading: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. Let’s jump right in with our first day of this method:
Scripture: Read the passage (Galatians chapter 1).
Observation: Ask and answer some questions about the passage (consider writing your answers down). Who is writing? To whom are they writing? Why are they writing? Are there any repeated words or other emphases?
Application: With what is hopefully a proper understanding of what God was saying to the original audience, how might it speak to you now today? What might it look like for you to apply yourself to what you read? Are there changes you need to make or actions you need to take?
Prayer: In light of what you read, what do you want to say to the Lord? Are there things you want to tell Him? Things you want to confess? Thank Him for? Ask Him about?
DAY 3
Wednesday, January 14
Scripture: Read the passage (Galatians chapter 2).
Observation: Ask and answer some questions about the passage (consider writing your answers down). Are there any repeated words or other emphases? Why is Paul telling these particular stories? What is the context of these events? What seems to be the significance of them?
Application: With what is hopefully a proper understanding of what God was saying to the original audience, how might it speak to you now today? What might it look like for you to apply yourself to what you read? Are there changes you need to make or actions you need to take?
Prayer: In light of what you read, what do you want to say to the Lord? Are there things you want to tell Him? Things you want to confess? Thank Him for? Ask Him about?
DAY 4
Thursday, January 15
Scripture: Read the passage (Galatians chapter 3).
Observation: Ask and answer some questions about the passage (consider writing your answers down). What is meant by “the law” here and why is it so significant? What does Paul say about the relationship or connection between faith and the law? From these verses what seems to be the Christian’s relationship to Abraham and the promises God gave him? What else stands out to you from this chapter?
Application: With what is hopefully a proper understanding of what God was saying to the original audience, how might it speak to you now today? What might it look like for you to apply yourself to what you read? Are there changes you need to make or actions you need to take?
Prayer: In light of what you read, what do you want to say to the Lord? Are there things you want to tell Him? Things you want to confess? Thank Him for? Ask Him about?
DAY 5
Friday, January 16
Scripture: Read the passage (Galatians chapter 4).
Observation: Ask and answer some questions about the passage (consider writing your answers down). Are there any repeated words or other emphases? Anything that stands out to you? What does this passage say makes a slave different from a son or daughter? What is the theological point being made in Paul’s allegorical comparison of Abraham’s sons through Hagar and through Sarah?
Application: With what is hopefully a proper understanding of what God was saying to the original audience, how might it speak to you now today? What might it look like for you to apply yourself to what you read? Are there changes you need to make or actions you need to take?
Prayer: In light of what you read, what do you want to say to the Lord? Are there things you want to tell Him? Things you want to confess? Thank Him for? Ask Him about?
DAY 6
Saturday, January 17
Scripture: Read the passage (Galatians chapter 5).
Observation: Ask and answer some questions about the passage (consider writing your answers down). Are there any repeated words or other emphases? Anything that stands out to you? What are the important things that Paul mentions about what freedom in Christ is and isn’t, what it means and doesn’t mean? As Paul has turned to a lot of instructions in this chapter, how does it flow out of all of the teaching that he did in the earlier chapters?
Application: With what is hopefully a proper understanding of what God was saying to the original audience, how might it speak to you now today? What might it look like for you to apply yourself to what you read? Are there changes you need to make or actions you need to take?
Prayer: In light of what you read, what do you want to say to the Lord? Are there things you want to tell Him? Things you want to confess? Thank Him for? Ask Him about?
DAY 7
Sunday, January 18
Scripture: Read the passage (Galatians chapter 6).
Observation: Ask and answer some questions about the passage (consider writing your answers down). Who is writing? To whom are they writing? Why are they writing? Are there any repeated words or other emphases? Are there any instructions here that, when you really understand them, perhaps take you by surprise?
Application: With what is hopefully a proper understanding of what God was saying to the original audience, how might it speak to you now today? What might it look like for you to apply yourself to what you read? Are there changes you need to make or actions you need to take?
Prayer: In light of what you read, what do you want to say to the Lord? Are there things you want to tell Him? Things you want to confess? Thank Him for? Ask Him about?
DAY 8
Monday, January 19
Read the whole book of Galatians. Yes, yes, you already read it through once last Monday and then each chapter this week. But read it all again! Ideally in a different translation than last week. (Here are some great options: ESV, NLT, HCSB, or NASB) Sometimes the different ways they translate the original language help us to better understand what’s being said.
Did anything new stand out to you reading it in a different translation?
DAY 9
Tuesday, January 20
Time for a new Bible study method! This week we’ll be doing “Verse Mapping.” You’ll still read a full chapter each day. (Today read just chapter 1 of Galatians.) But then as you read, look for one verse to focus in on studying. Once you’ve finished the whole chapter, let’s go back to your chosen verse and do a little deeper study!
What perhaps drew you to this verse?
What are 1 or 2 of the most significant words in the verse? Now let’s do a quick word study on them to see if there are any helpful insights. It’s simple! Go to BlueLetterBible.org, find the verse and then click “Tools.” Scroll down till you see your word and then click the letter+number hyperlink next to it to take you to that Greek word’s dictionary. Go down to the “Outline of Biblical Usage” to see some fuller definitions for how this word is understood in Scripture. Reading through that, does it add any insight to what this verse is saying?
How does this particular verse impact the flow of the rest of what is being said in its context?
How does this verse impact your understanding of God, yourself, humanity, or truth?
DAY 10
Wednesday, January 21
Let’s verse-map Galatians 2! Read the whole chapter and pick 1 verse to study with these questions:

Last time we’re asking you to do it: Read the whole book of Galatians, ideally in one sitting, in yet another new translation.
How have the deeper dives you’ve been doing in the past 2 weeks impacted how you understand and appreciate the book or particular parts of this book in new ways than before?
DAY 16
Tuesday, January 27
Here’s our final Bible study method! This week we’ll be doing the “APPLE” method. Yes, it’s an acronym.
But once you get past any hangups with that possible “cheesiness” you’ll find that it really helps to illuminate special insights from the chapter you’re reading. (Pro tip: To really make the most of this method, you really do want to grab a paper and pen or at the very least a new Note on your phone to jot down all your answers!)
So let’s just jump right in with chapter 1. Read Galatians chapter 1, looking for (and writing out) any and all:
Attributes of God
Promises of God
Principles for life
Lessons learned
Examples to follow
That’s it! Anything stand out to you having studied this chapter this way?
